Central Population Register

The Central Population Register represents a unique, centralized, and electronic database that contains accurate, reliable, and regularly updated information about individuals in the Republic of North Macedonia. This register was established to provide a secure and efficient data exchange system among state institutions, serving as a foundation for digital transformation and modernization of public services.

 

The Central Population Register contains so-called reference data about citizens, such as: name and surname, personal identification number, date and place of birth, citizenship, residential address, marital status, and data on death. This data is standardized and available in real time to authorized institutions, aiming to simplify administrative procedures and reduce the need for citizens to submit various documents.

 

Sources of Data
Data in the Central Population Register is collected and updated by the following source institutions:

  • Ministry of Internal Affairs (MoIA) – provides data on personal identification, addresses, and citizenship;
  • Bureau for the Management of Civil Registers – provides data on birth, marriage or divorce, and death;
  • Central Registry of the Republic of North Macedonia – provides data about citizens related to business entities, when relevant.

These institutions are the only authorized sources of truthful data in the register and are obliged to update any changes in accordance with the law.

 

Data Users
Authorized access to the data of the Central Population Register, for the fulfillment of their legal responsibilities, is granted to:

  • Ministry of Digital Transformation
  • Ministry of Finance – Financial Police Office
  • Ministry of Education and Science
  • Customs Administration of the Republic of North Macedonia
  • State Statistical Office
  • Central Registry of the Republic of North Macedonia
  • Employment Agency of the Republic of North Macedonia
  • Agency for Real Estate Cadastre
  • Macedonian Telekom AD – Skopje
  • Eurotrust Technologies DOOEL
  • Clearing House Clearing Interbank Systems AD Skopje (KIBS AD Skopje)
  • A1 Macedonia DOOEL – Skopje

These institutions are data users and access the register according to their legal responsibilities, in a strictly controlled and secure environment.

 

The Central Population Register enables:

  • Reduction of administrative costs and bureaucracy,
  • Improvement of data accuracy and consistency,
  • Simplification of the processes for obtaining public services,
  • Higher trust in institutions and their records.

All activities related to the Central Population Register are in accordance with the Law on the Central Population Register and the Law on Personal Data Protection.
