The Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, today presented the new National Strategy for Information and Communication Technologies – “SMART/MK 2030”, with which Macedonia, after eight years, finally acquires a modern and comprehensive plan for digital development.
“This document is a roadmap for how our country will achieve its digital future – aligned with European values and standards for the Digital Decade 2030, but as well the Macedonian vision and needs,” Minister Andonovski emphasized.
“SMART/MK 2030” is a national document, part of a broader European digital agenda for development. As a candidate country, Macedonia accepts the framework of the European Digital Decade, which envisages four goals by 2030:
- digitally literate citizens and qualified ICT experts,
- protected and connected infrastructure,
- digitized public services,
- digitally integrated businesses.
“Our strategy directly follows these European priorities. It strengthens institutional convergence with the member states, creates opportunities for participation in European digital programs, and enables access to financial instruments and technical assistance from the European Union. With it, we become an active part of the European digital community – as a partner that contributes with its own knowledge, solutions and innovations,” stated Minister Andonovski.
This strategy is the result of a broad and inclusive process. Dozens of public discussions and online consultations were held. In its preparation were involved over 300 experts, institutions, chambers of commerce, non-governmental organizations, universities and representatives from the ICT industry.
“Every recommendation, every measure and every priority emerges from a common consensus – how to build a digital Macedonia that unites all sectors of society,” concluded Andonovski.
The Strategy is accompanied by an Action Plan, which translates the vision into concrete steps. The focus is on rapid implementation, clear indicators and continuous evaluation.
