Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, in an interview with Top Tema, emphasized that Macedonia is striving to be a pioneer in the region by introducing a “digital wallet,” which actually means that citizens can have all their personal documents in one place.
“This is a novelty and with it we want to show that we can be pioneers in the broader region and take a big step forward. The digital wallet is an option, an alternative, not an obligation – it will not be mandatory for anyone,” stated Andonovski.
As a positive example, he cited Ukraine and Poland. “It is an electronic version of our personal documents, and we want to build a super application following the example of Dia in Ukraine and Emobile in Poland. The application should also contain key services for citizens, so that all important services and personal documents are available electronically, in one place – in one super application.”
The minister emphasized that it seems difficult, but it is not impossible, as we have all the potential for development and over 1,000 students graduating from the faculties of computer science every year.
Testing is scheduled for October, and during 2026 the digital wallet will be presented to citizens. The entire operation of data acquisition should be carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, added Andonovski in the interview.
