Andonovski: Safer Internet Day celebrated in Prilep

The Ministry of Digital Transformation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Prilep, organized a significant to commemorate the International Safer Internet Day at the Primary School "Kire Gavrilovski - Jane" in Prilep. The event was held as part of the MKSafeNet project, which is being celebrated for the second time this year.

The Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, emphasised that this is the second consecutive year the Ministry has marked Safer Internet Day among students and highlighted the goal of the MKSafeNet project is to raise awareness among the youngest population about safe use of the Internet, preventive action and indicating the consequences of irresponsible use of the Internet.

"Through the project, more than 70 schools across the country have been involved so far, and tools and guidelines have been distributed to all parents and teachers via the Ministry of Education so that parents can have greater control over their children using the internet and protect them in the digital space," stated Andonovski.

In response to a journalist's question about whether the Government is considering a ban on social media for the younger generation, Andonovski noted that such a step would be too radical.

“"It is too radical when the state decides to ban a certain tool, because if we were to move in that direction, we could end up violating the right to free choice and free speech, but of course the Government and the Ministry remain open if there is an initiative for discussion," the minister emphasized.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Prilep, Dejan Prodanoski, expressed his gratitude for the collaboration and support from the Ministry of Digital Transformation, noting that Prilep is among the priorities of the Ministry. As a specific example, he pointed the new Service Centre of the Ministry, located inside the premises of the tax administration sector in Prilep.

Through the new Service Center of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, citizens of Prilep will now have the physical opportunity to access some of the services available on the National Portal for Services – services.gov.mk.

The Minister of Digital Transformation continues with activities aimed at strengthening digital literacy and improving the safety of children in the digital space, through cooperation with schools, teachers, professionals and the civil sector.
