The Minister for Digital Transformation, at a press conference, announced the organization of the Western Balkans Digital Summit 2025, which will be held again in Skopje, on October 1 and 2, 2025, at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
This regional platform connects governments from the region, the business community, academia and international partners with the aim of accelerating the digital transformation in the region.
The summit will be organized on two stages – main and technological, with three main priorities:
• Digital wallet – safe and recognizable access to public and private services.
• Interoperability – connecting systems and registries for cross-border electronic services.
• Cybersecurity – protection of personal data and critical infrastructure.
On the technology stage, topics will be discussed on artificial intelligence, 5G and optical infrastructure, digital skills and the access of regional companies to the single European digital market.
The Minister underlined that more than 800 participants and speakers are expected, including: Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, ministers from Montenegro, Albania, high-ranking representatives from Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, high-ranking representatives of the European Commission, the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), ITU, the business sector from the region and other international organizations. Among the most important guests and speakers, we expect Renate Nicolai (DG CONNECT), RCC Secretary General Amer Kapetanović, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Deputy Secretary General Tomas Lamanauskas, a video address by Tomas Jarzombek (Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Republic of Germany), as well as from the private sector Svjatoslav Senjuta from VISA, Mark Vasic from Deutsche Telekom and Kate Marsh from the British Council.
Minister Andonovski emphasized that the summit is of exceptional importance because it will continue “Our efforts to further reduce WB6–EU roaming costs with a path towards “roaming like home”, for 0 internet costs for Macedonian and Western Balkan citizens when traveling to the EU.”
