Andonovski: Free WI-FI zones for citizens in more than 60 municipalities across Macedonia

The Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, today visited Gjorce Petrov, together with the mayor of the municipality, Aleksandar Stojkovski, announced the project for new free WI-FI zones across the country, which places the focus on citizens, by allowing them to use free internet in these zones, and the first such zone will be the park in Gjorce Petrov.

 

"We are setting up free WI-FI zones for citizens, Gjorce Petrov is one of the first municipalities where this will be implemented, through an EU-supported project as part of the Western Balkans plan, respectively WI-FI for the Western Balkans. In addition to Gjorce Petrov, we have applications in more than 60 municipalities across the country," announced  Andonovski.

 

This project, which is in cooperation with the EU in the benefit of the Western Balkan countries, is of great importance and support to all participating countries, because it will increase internet accessibility and raise digital literacy.

 

Andonovski also announced that there will be a dozen such zones in Skopje, which, as he said, young people will be the biggest beneficiaries of this project.

 

"In Skopje, we will have more than 10 locations where these WI-FI zones will be set up, where citizens, especially young people to access free internet provided through this EU cooperation project", said Andonovski.

 

Mayor Stojkovski expressed satisfaction with the cooperation so far with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and announced the complete digitalization of municipal services, because as he said, digitalization offers better and more efficient services for citizens.
