Andonovski: North Macedonia is proactively building a cybersecurity system – European in standards, national in responsibility and partnership in approach

The Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, today addressed an event at the "Goce Delchev" University in Štip, marking the commencement of a significant project in the field of cybersecurity, which connects the academic community, institutions, and international partners.

In his address, Minister Andonovski emphasized that digital transformation does not only mean introducing new technologies and services, but also creating a secure, resilient and trustworthy digital state.

"Today's event has a broader message: that Macedonia does not wait to react when a problem arises but is proactively building a system. A system that will be European in standards, national in responsibility, and partnership-based in approach," Andonovski said.

The Minister emphasized that cybersecurity has been established as one of the top priorities of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, recalling the key steps taken in the past period: the adoption of the National Cyber Security Strategy 2025–2028, the establishment of the legal framework aligned with the NIS 2 directive of the European Union, the establishment of the Cyber Security Sector within the Ministry, as well as the opening of the Government Centre for Cyber Incident Response- MKD GOV CIRT.

Andonovski pointed out that long-term cyber resilience cannot be built only through strategies, laws and institutions, but through people, knowledge, exercises, trust and partnerships. In this regard, he highlighted the importance of academic institutions and international cooperation, especially with the United States.

"If we want long-term cybersecurity, we must invest not only in technologies, but also in personnel," the minister emphasised.

He added that with this project, "Goce Delchev" University is becoming a regional hub for training and certification of cyber professionals, which represents a significant contribution to the development of one of the key professions for the future.

The Ministry of Digital Transformation remains firmly committed to building policies, institutions, and partnerships that will ensure that North Macedonia is not only digital, but also secure, resilient, and ready for the future.
