Andonovski: Government supports the development of electronic commerce – through strategies, interoperability and reduced bureaucracy

The Government of the Republic of Macedonia confirms its commitment to promoting e-commerce as a driver of the economy, by implementing a clear strategy for digital transformation, strengthening interoperability and reducing administrative obstacles for citizens and companies.

The Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, at the opening of the 8th Regional E-commerce Conference in Skopje, emphasized that e-commerce is no longer an alternative, but a dominant economic model, which requires strong support from the state through modern digital platforms, regulatory predictability and market-oriented innovations.

“The interoperability that we have provided free of charge for more than 76 institutions and companies – with more than 2.6 million secure transactions per month and a growth of 260% – represents not only a success for the administration, but also an opportunity for the private sector. It opens space for digital services, secure data exchange, quick access to necessary administrative data and new business models that connect the state and companies in a common digital ecosystem,” stated Minister Andonovski.

As part of the support for small and medium-sized enterprises, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, through the European Digital Innovation Hub – INNOFEIT EDIH, provides companies with access to laboratories, digital tools and expert support for testing new technologies before investing. This hub also offers training in digital skills in the areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, automation and the Internet of Things, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of domestic companies on the European market.

In the same manner, the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence – Vezilka, is developing AI solutions applicable to the private sector, thus creating conditions for electronic commerce to become more efficient, smarter and safer.

“Reducing bureaucracy and opening up data for the business community are key to a modern state. The government is creating an infrastructure where innovation is at the centre, and citizens and companies are the real beneficiaries of digital transformation,” added Andonovski.

In the upcoming period, the government will continue to invest in digital infrastructure, improving the innovation ecosystem, as well as in programs to support startups and entrepreneurs in the digital economy.
